More winter happenings

We've had some pretty big happenings so far in 2015!

One of the biggest is our new bathroom!!! Nate has been working on this for months.  With a little plumbing help from his friends, he did this all himself.  He built it in the basement.  We had to get a special "upflush" toilet so we wouldn't have a plumbing issue.  I really think he enjoyed it even though it was a lot of work.  I enjoyed my small part of painting and decorating!  I've never lived in a house with more than one bathroom so this is pretty exciting stuff for me and I'm so thankful for it!

In the process we cleaned up and reorganized the basement.  It was a little rough not having a basement for the first month or two of winter because the kids really need a place to kick and rough around in but now that it's done we're really enjoying the space.  We're also enjoying the big screen and projector daddy set up down there for working out and movie nights!

I just had to take a picture of this.  I had them all set up with their class lists and realized that they were both writing out their own Valentines cards, where did the time go that my babies could do this themselves?!?!

And in other BIG news, welcome Mittens!!! Aliyah has been obsessed with cats for as long as I can remember and all 3 of them have been begging for years.  I was able to put it off with the basement construction (her litter box is down there), trip to Myrtle Beach and then weekend of company, but I ran out of excuses.  We adopted 2 year old mittens at the end of January.  She was in the Petsmart rescue program, has a little eye problem and the tip of her left ear is gone so must have had some trauma on her left side, but we put ointment on her eye when we have to and it was checked out and we know she can see out of it. I have to say, for not being a pet/cat person she's pretty much perfect.  Aliyah would prefer she would be a little more cuddly with her, but she may still warm up to it (she really wants her to sleep in bed with her but she usually sleeps on a bed on top of our radiator heater in our room right under the window).  She's very well behaved, loves to play and isn't on my lap ever!  We all took to each other very well and the kids just are still in awe that they have their very own live cat!

Today Aliyah told me she was going to be fancy!

They had predicted more snow this winter than last, so far that hasn't been the case.  We try to enjoy the snow we do get at least.
Kids had been excited to see this and Nate found a GC in his wallet, score!

Mogel Reunion winter 2015

Another fun tradition is our post Christmas family gathering with my mom's side of the family.  I can remember years ago when the VA folks would come up the day after Christmas and stay a few days.  Most of us would sleep at mom-mom's house and somehow we all fit!  Since we've doubled in numbers since those days, we generally cannot coordinate schedules until a few weeks after Christmas and without mom-mom's house, we now do it in Harrisburg, but it's still just as special to have everyone get together!  I know this makes her happy up there!

Missing Becky (weather was iffy and she didn't want to risk the drive), Kate (had her 3rd baby girl Eddie 3 days after this), and Kris (of course in CA).

The VA "kids" got to enjoy real snow!

Farm Show

Same show, another year, always a great time!

Myrtle Beach New Years Week

It's been a few years since Grandma Melody and Grandpa Jeff moved to Myrtle Beach and we didn't get to see them for the holidays.  Since it worked out that we had some time off of work/school it was a good year to go.  We had wanted to have another visit with Great Grandma Nancy, who is all settled into a lovely assisted living home and doing pretty well.  And it was also the only way to see the Browns for the holidays too since they officially moved to Atlanta a few weeks prior.  As a bonus, Uncle Parker, Aunt Joan, Alicia, Brad and Liz all came in for a visit too so it was a fun family week.  It could have been a little warmer (we froze outside NYE) but still better than it was at home and always nice to get away.  It was 70 when we left to come up and had dropped nearly 40 degrees till we got back to PA!

One of our last stops was to Boardwalk at the Beach.  We always enjoy walking around there, and doing some rides.  Since the kids had some birthday money we also thought they would really enjoy doing Build a Bear and we were right.  They had a great time picking out their animals and accessories for it!

Of course we did our Christmas too!

Aliyah enjoyed all her new art supplies, already made some scrunch art with Grandma!

The kids had a hard time understanding that it wasn't going to be like Myrtle Beach in the summer with all the swimming.  Lucky for us the Browns and Uncle Parker's were both staying at a nice hotel with indoor pools so we got to go over there a few times.  This was perfect for a little girl very anxious to try out her new mermaid tail!

When I first let her go she almost looked like she was going to drown, all floundering around.  Then I realized she was flapping the tail and doing spins, trying to be just like a real mermaid!  It was priceless!

NYE- there was a little street festival at Market Commons, it was cute but we sure got cold!

Aliyah showing off her dance moves!

Fun to get in some outside playtime again!

Beach was cold, but we had to have some playtime there too!

He didn't' seem to notice how cold the water was...

New Years Day we had a fun pizza and snacks dinner in Uncle Parker's suite and birthday cake for Aunt Joan.

Sparklers on the beach!

Grandma actually does like her how looking like this, at least she claims so:)
